SIX people are expected to lose their jobs when a Sydney aviation company takes over Belmont airline Aeropelican.

The IAP Group called yesterday for staff to indicate their preference for either a job or a redundancy package.

IAP Group director and Aeropelican chief executive officer Gareth Brown said 24 people were expected to be employed in 15 full-time, six part-time and three casual positions.

Thirty people currently share 17 full-time positions at Belmont Airport.

The IAP Group is expected to take over Aeropelican on April 22, one week earlier than first anticipated.

It was initially feared up to half of the Aeropelican staff would lose their jobs when the IAP Group announced last month that only 15 full-time jobs would be retained.

Mr Brown said the nine part-time and casual positions were expected to become full-time as passenger numbers increased.
